This blog documents the developping prozess of the comic project WIRES*.
From the very beginning the thought and ideas of the author, sketches, the discussions between the participators and their different point of view can be followed on this blog.
The development of the characters, the creation of three stories tightly linked with each other and the becoming of the final product, a comic book in a box. Write us an email to order one.

The project WIRES* is a collaboration of three comic artists: Nele Brönner from Germany, Faezal Muniran from Malaysia and PieR Gajewski from France. They develop and produce a graphic novel about the topic: Economy and Society.

Focusing on the economic crises impact on society, the four artists will give their point of view from and about their original country. The comic will show up the tight connections in the global network of production chain and in the worldwide trade. Starting with one idea: everything is connected and influences everything. The artwork will be talking of hidden conjunctions and possibilities of acting together but also about how close and how far form each other we are at the same time. The artists aim is to show how ambivalent and incredible globalization is or could be. The comic contributes by portraying and abstracting the situation through positive and surprising pointsof view. By circumstantiating global issues from a personal and from a national point of view, the work will give a close narration about local circumstances and the comic culture.

Using the wires of global communication the graphic novel will be written and the artwork prepared by using this Internet platform. This allowes the artists the possibility to discuss about the differences and to try to find collective conclusion but also to work together as tight and as effective as possible.

In May 2009 the group commenced the collaboration on WIRES*. They take cue from today's globalized economies. Each tell their own mini-stories about their own countries of origin. These are totally separate events but linked together. Resulting from the connections is a "wired" world - A plausible utopian or dystopian future of the one we live in today.

Five key elements define these futuristic societies: 1. Communication & Human Relation 2. Nature & Biotechnology 3. Machines & Electronics 4. Art & Knowledge, and 5. Energy. Nele imagines nature's response to the acts of man. PieR talks about the combination of human art and knowledge called culture. While Faezal designs machines that co-inhabit the world. And Po-Wil works on communication and understanding between individuals and groups.

The characters in the stories have animal heads. They try to be serious, funny, surreal, and ancient all at the same time. Which animals showing up is an exciting avenue the artists are exploring.

It is not verified whether these inhabitants of the Wired* world are using universal or multiple languages for communication. It is not even clear among the artists if word balloons with English words will be enough for the comics' purposes. Some invented alien language perhaps?
